Simone Strauf: , MA, is Senior Researcher at the Institute for Public Services and Tourism (IDT-HSG) at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). She received her M.A. from the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg (Germany) in 1994 in Geography and Economics. From 1994-1998 she was Project Manager at the “Institute for Regional Studies in Europe” (EURES, Freiburg, Germany). During this time she managed international projects – mainly financed by the European Commission – concerning the topics regional development, tourism and gender studies. From 1998 - 1999 she worked as a senior researcher at the “Institut Arbeit und Technik (IAT)” in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The IAT is a public transdisciplinary social research institution grounded in generic research and engaged in practical actor-oriented research. Since 2000, she is Senior Researcher at the Institute for Public Services and Tourism (IDT-HSG) at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). She manages projects concerning scientific and market research and business consulting as well. Key aspects of her work are regional development, regional competitiveness, regional impact studies and tourism. Simone Strauf is author of numerous national and international scientific publications. Since 2000, she is Editor of the Journal of Applied Geography “Standort” (www.geographie.de/dvag/standort), which is the largest journal of applied geography in Europe.
