Household Market and Work Time Distribution in Selected European Countries
Marta Hozer
ABSTRACT. The article is an attempt to answer the following questions:
- What are the tools to measure the time distribution between market and household work?
- What was the pattern of time distribution between market and household work in Europe?
- What are the most powerful factors determining the work time distribution?
In order to measure the time distribution between market work and household work the author applied such parameters as: mean work duration, mean work performance time and the percentage of people who perform a given type of work. Basing on these measures the following indices were constructed: DCP – a work time distribution index, CPD – a household work time index and CPZ – a market work time index. The working time distribution analysis was carried out for the following European countries: Belgium, France, Great Britain, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Slovenia and Hungary.
KEYWORDS: household work, DCP – a work time distribution index, European countries, Poland.
