Ligita Melece: , PhD, is Head of Department of Quality and Environment Protection of Latvian State Institute of Agrarian Economics. In 2004, she obtained PhD degree in Economics (Agrarian) from Latvian Agricultural University. She had fellowships in the USA and Sweden. She is a project’s leader and is involved in different scientific and research projects, granted from Latvian Council of Science, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and other Latvia’s and EU and member countries institutions. From 2006, she is the Chair of the Scientific Council and the Board of Latvian State Institute of Agrarian Economics and manages the research work in the institute. She is the author of over 100 scientific and scientifically practical publications in the field of: agri-food products and chain quality, safety and management; sustainable development int al. organic farming development; food consumption; CAP implementation; estimation of GHG emissions from agriculture; quality and classification issues of pig and cattle carcasses in al. grading formula estimation etc. She is involved in EU Pigmeat Management Committee as Latvia’s side expert.
