Stakeholders’ Perceptions on CSR in the Romanian Business Environment: A Qualitative Approach
Laurenţiu-Dan Anghel, Diana Maria Vrânceanu, Alina Filip
ABSTRACT. The present paper focuses on investigating the stakeholders’ perceptions on CSR among Romanian companies. For achieving this aim, we used a qualitative research whose main objectives were to identify: CSR meanings and its role in economy and society, stakeholders’ awareness of their role in stimulating CSR, stakeholders’ actions taken to support social responsible behaviors, stakeholders’ perceptions on the level of CSR implementation within Romanian companies. The results show that Romanian stakeholders are oriented towards the philanthropic and legal dimensions of CSR. They highlight the internal CSR dimension with emphasis on avoiding environmental damages, creating an environmental responsibility among employees and compliance with the regulations in force in all circumstances. The stakeholders’ role in developing CSR is rather informative and educative than operational; their contribution to stimulating CSR is generally perceived as being low or even inexistent. From the stakeholders’ perceptions, there is a lack of long-term objectives and sustainable CSR strategies within Romanian companies.
