Specificity of Border Labour Migration

ABSTRACT. The present paper is aimed at analysing the specificity of border labour migration in West Pomeranian voivodship. It discusses the results of qualitative research obtained by the author as part of the project entitled „Foreign labour migration 2010”. At first, the methodology of the aforementioned research will be discussed. Subsequently, the category of labour migrants from border regions and Berlin will be presented. Furthermore, the author will identify reasons behind taking up employment in Germany and borderland as well as factors that attract people to work in Poland (pull factors), present methods for seeking employment abroad, examine Polish and German labour markets in the opinion of respondents, work below qualification and black economy in border regions. As far as conclusions are concerned, the author will refer to plans formulated by Polish people about working in German borderland as well as main problems faced by West Pomeranian labour market.
