BUSINESS DEMOGRAPHY - STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF FIRM DURATION
Iwona Markowicz
ABSTRACT.The main aim of this article is to present research methodology in business demography. It is a research field that deals with the populations and cohorts of firms. It presents results of research for firms established in Szczecin (Poland) in years 1999-2006 (or 2000-2006). The paper suggests using the following duration models: life tables (non-parametric), Cox regression model (semi-parametric) and logistic regression model (parametric). The empirical part includes the time modelling of firm duration. Nonparametric model with continuous time (life table) was used to model the duration. Semi-parametric model with continuous time (Cox regression model) was applied to explore influence of chosen attributes on the firm duration. However, the model with discrete time (logistic regression model) was used to explore the risk of firm liquidation in specified time.
