Gabriel Claudiu Mursa, Constantin Munteanu-Gurgu, Radu Cristian Musetescu, Cristian Valeriu Paun
ABSTRACT. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that the high youth unemployment rate in Romania is caused by the difficulties that arise in the process of transition from the education system (school) to the labour market (work). The analysis focuses on the main cultural factors (mentalities and education) and economic factors that generate important rigidities in this process of transition. The authors of this article want to emphasize that the local attitudes, the features of national economic system and the institutional regulations mostly explain the unemployment rate among the young people in Romania. At the same time, this approach attempts to show that the difficulty of young people to find a job is related, in particular, to the subjective factors. The processing of statistical data and qualitative interpretation show that the size of this phenomenon tends to be exaggerated in Romania .
