ATTITUDES OF MANAGERS TOWARDS THE ROLE OF HR DEPARTMENTS IN ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE: EVIDENCE FROM LITHUANIA

ABSTRACT. Since human resources have been recognized as the most valuable factor for organizational success, HR departments have gained more importance and are starting to become strategic players in organizations. With this perspective, the article discusses shifts in HR specialists' functions and roles in organizations as well as attitudes of managers towards the HR department and its future. In particular, the link between human resource management and organizational performance is looked at. In seeking to reveal attitudes of managers in Lithuanian companies towards the role of the HR department in ensuring positive organizational performance, an empirical study has been conducted. Research results revealed differences in managers' attitudes towards HR departments/specialists and displayed the relationship between organizational performance, credibility and commitment of the HR department and its integration in the company .
