WORK-LIFE BALANCE AND SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION: IS THERE A RELATION?
Zaneta Piligrimiene, Jurate Banyte, Regina Virvilaite
ABSTRACT. Recent literature repeatedly suggests that in the context of sustainable consumer behaviour the workplace has an important role. The workplace can influence consumer behaviour by providing knowledge and creating habits that stimulate sustainable consumption at home. According to existing research, it is a big probability that experience acquired at the workplace will be transferred and used in private life. On the other hand, the working life determines a number of constraints for sustainable consumption as well. This paper examines the relationship between work-life balance and sustainable consumption in private life among university employees. Although the empirical results allow confirming the positive link, the relation is rather weak, opening the horizons for further exploration of other possible work-related determinants of sustainable consumption.
