Bartlomiej Nita , Piotr Oleksyk

ABSTRACT. In view of the complexity of management processes detection of frauds plays an important role from the perspective of business security and at the same time automation and robotisation are becoming increasingly important in accounting.
The main objective of the study is to identify the major abuses and frauds, their causes and methods aiding their elimination in practice, as well as to use the findings as a background for proposing automation and robotisation in accounting as an instrument supporting fraud detection and elimination. This paper describes findings from a pilot study carried out on a group of 113 managers and experts. The research findings confirm that both financial accounting and managerial accounting have some methods which could be used for fraud detection and reduction, yet their efficient application requires automation and robotisation of the processes implemented by financial and accounting services. The findings of the study show a potential for employing numerous solutions which encourage automation. The nature of the findings is cognitive since they indicate the types of frauds found in the examined enterprises, fraud detection methods, deficiencies of the control mechanisms, and automation in accounting as a way to streamline fraud identification and elimination.
