Boguslawa Drelich-Skulska, Malgorzata Domiter

ABSTRACT. The idea of economic security is not new. The awareness of the fact that the economic factor affects security, or is simply its inherent element, has been accompanying the evolution of international relations throughout their entire history. This article identifies and provides the characteristics of the fundamental theoretical streams and the related paradigms, which constitute the framework for the main definitions and theories of the economic security of a state in conditions of the current development of the world economy. By viewing them from the perspective of the science of international relations, it is possible to distinguish two open subsets which coexist in strict dependency. The first of is of a methodological character - referring to the paradigm of security in contemporary international relations, while the second is based on the changes generated by the processes of globalization and regionalization .

KEYWORDS:  economic security, international relations, paradigms of the science of international relations.
