SUSTAINABILITY OF THE MARITIME SECTOR

ABSTRACT: The paper deals with sustainability of maritime sector. Based on a comprehensive literature review, it analyses the concept of sustainable maritime and the criteria for sustainable development of maritime sector. The main barriers and drivers of the sustainable maritime sector were identified and critically discussed. The main policies and measures to achieve sustainable maritime sector development are scrutinized based on critical analysis of scientific literature. The main gaps in sustainability assessment of maritime sector were identified and future research directions were plotted based on analysis provided. The paper applied a systematic and bibliographic literature analysis approach.
