SHAPING FACTORS OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES’ MARKET GROWTH IN EUROPE: A NEW MODELLING APPROACH
Flavius Ioan Rovinaru, Marcel Pirvu, Marius Ioan Mihut, Tudor Gherasim Smirna
ABSTRACT: The automotive industry is undergoing a swift change of paradigm from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EV), but what is driving it? Electric vehicles are not a new idea, they have been around from the early age of automotive development (late 19th century) but ICEs have been favoured at the time. In the early 21st century, environmental concerns have brought EVs to the spotlight again. In this paper we are trying to identify specific factors in the rapid deployment of electric vehicles (charging infrastructure, individual income, daily distance covered and urbanization) throughout Europe and test their relevance.
KEYWORDS:  automotive industry, electric mobility, environmental economics.
